Man who broke into home while family slept last month arrested

Man accused of stealing debit and credit cards while mother and three children slept, then using the cards to make purchases

A Guelph man wanted for breaking into a home while a woman and her children were asleep last month was arrested Tuesday, Guelph police said.

Just after noon, officers located the man downtown and learned he had an outstanding arrest warrant. Early June 10, a home near College Avenue West and Scottsdale Drive was raided while the resident and her three children were asleep.

The resident’s wallet was stolen and her debit and credit cards were used to make 11 purchases, totaling more than $1,100.

A 30-year-old Guelph man was arrested Tuesday for burglary, theft under $5,000, using a stolen credit card and two counts of breaching a probation order. He was found to be in possession of a spring-loaded knife and two stolen cheques and was also charged with unlawful possession of a prohibited weapon, two counts of possession of stolen property and an additional count of breaching a probation order. He was being held for a bail hearing on Wednesday.
