Indian health workers protest outside the immigration office on Anglesea Street

It is due to serious delays in the processing of Irish residence permits which are impacting hundreds of families in Cork.

In Cork city alone, 6,000 foreigners are waiting for their permits to be renewed.

A group representing Indian healthcare workers has protested outside the immigration office on Anglesea Street.

There are only three officers available for duty in the city and there are currently five-month backlogs.

Today’s protest is intended to draw attention to the delays in obtaining appointments for residence permits.

They are calling for the introduction of an online system and the establishment of other immigration offices in the province.
