Oro stool not for highest bidder, says royal family

The Olufayo Oro Royal Family of Oro Kingdom in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara has declared that the traditional ruler’s stool is not for sale to the highest bidder.

Chief Tejumola Abikoye Titiloye, who is also the head of Olufayo/Oluode compound, Iludun-Oro, said this in a statement made available to journalists in Ilorin on Tuesday.

Titiloye added that Prince Olaniyi Oyatoye is a bonafide member of the Olufayo Afin Oro royal family, and he has the right to contest the royal stool.

According to him, history is sacred and adds that no one should rewrite the history of the royal family for their own interests.

It would be recalled that a group of persons in the state had said in a publication that the Olufayo ruling house had rejected Prince Joel Olaniyi Oyatoye in the Obaship affairs.

The ruling house, however, said Prince Oyatoye is a bonafide member of the Olufayo Afin Oro royal family and has the right to vie for the royal stool.

“Olufayo Afin Oro Ruling House hereby confirms that Prince Joel Olaniyi Oyatoye is a bona fide member of our family and we wish to declare that he is eminently qualified and entitled to the throne of the Oro Kingdom.

“History is sacred and cannot be altered to suit the interests of any individual or group of individuals in an attempt to assassinate fate or support the character assassination of an innocent soul,” the statement said.

The statement therefore urged the public to ignore a social media publication sponsored by some unscrupulous elements bent on distorting the history of the great family.

It declared the said publication as frivolous, selfish, baseless, blameworthy and uncharitable towards the good people of Oro Kingdom and humanity in general.

It also urged the author or sponsors of the said publication to desist from such dastardly acts in the interest of peace and progress of the great community.

However, the ruling house warned that failure to desist from such acts amounts to daring to face the unforeseen consequences as appropriate legal action will be taken against the perpetrators as well as media platforms that support such criminal acts of defamation of character and cheer on.
